High school students fill out the CareerSource Suncoast survey

Sixty-nine percent of high school students say that the area has enough job opportunities, but only 16.7 percent say they plan to stay in the area after completing high school, according to survey results released by CareerSource Suncoast last week. The survey was conducted during October's State of Jobs Conference, attended by 850 high school students from Sarasota and Manatee counties. Seventy-four percent of respondents said they plan to pursue a bachelor's degree after graduation. Twenty-seven percent of high schoolers said they think local jobs do not pay enough for a worker to have a "nice life," while the same amount said local jobs do pay enough; 46 percent said jobs pay enough only if you have a college degree.
